Thrilling Seizures -
Memoirs of a Customs Officer
By Sripad Gogte
About The Book
“Do you know which is the best way to follow a car?” He asks with a twinkle in his eyes. “From the front!” He is happy to have you taken aback. “It’s my secret. Even the suspect does not realize someone is on his trail.”
An amazing world of secrets and adventure unfolds before us as we are caught in the grip of these exciting tales of Customs seizures. Textiles concealed in pillow cases, foreign currency in coffee-tins, gold found in jars of honey - these are only a few of the thrilling episodes in the diary of a Customs Officer.
Mr.Gogte’s prime seizure was the Bombay Custom’s first gold seizure and his parting shot was the confiscation of 57987 wristwatches from a posh locality of Malabar Hill.
Sripad Gogte’s memoirs open up a vista of sensational custom seizures, smuggling and crime. Intelligence, experience sheer gut feeling and a sharp sixth sense, are all rolled into one, to sniff out culprits. This job is like walking a tight rope. Acrobatics, it seems, is a part of the custom.
